Second, ombre color transitions primarily occur vertically, whereas balayage color transitions occur horizontally. Thirdly, colorists say that Balayazh is simpler to execute, so staining the house can start with this option.

There are two possible outcomes with this color. In the first example, the hair is dyed chestnut-eggplant all the way down, leaving a naturally occurring light brown shade in the root zone. The second scenario is an extension of the first one, with the hair ends being further dyed blond. This gives the hair more visual volume, and the picture looks more vibrant overall.

How to choose a dye for balayage

- For dark-blond variations with tones of coffee and chocolate, classic shades of blond are suitable, for example, smoky.
- Two colors will play well on a classic blond shade: golden and ash.
- And girls with light-blond hair can easily decide on the most unusual experiments with colors. Above we talked about strawberry balayage. On a light-blond base, it looks very appetizing.

Balayage masters have a lot of leeway when working on dark blonde hair. For instance, you may decide to pair light ash with your natural shade in a striking combination. or favor a more conservative course of action. We advise adding two shades—dark blond and golden copper—to the ends in the second scenario. Regardless of how you go about it, the primary objective of coloring—that is, enhancing facial features—will be accomplished.

Light brown hair benefits from balayage, which adds a natural, sun-kissed glow without drastically altering the hair’s natural tones. This method discreetly blends highlights into your hair to create a radiant, soft look that resembles the effect of sunlight on hair. It’s ideal for people who want to brighten their style without sacrificing effortless chicness or low maintenance.
Balayage taking into account hair length: step-by-step instructions
After settling on the paint color and application method, let’s put the theory into practice. The method used for coloring hair varies depending on its length. Naturally, colorists perceive balayage on medium-length blond hair differently than they do on short hair. As a result, we will examine each case independently.
Long hair
Two to three hours must be set aside for this event. You will need a brush and a sponge in addition to the dye for long hair balayage. The latter is more practical for creating a long, seamless color transition by distributing the composition throughout the hair.
- 1 Balayage is done on clean, dry strands. We recommend placing a photo in front of you with the result you want to achieve. Comb your hair and divide it into four equal sections (mentally dividing the scalp into four "squares").
- 2 Secure the sections with clamps.
- 3 Start coloring from the back of the head, retreating from the roots about ¼ of the length. Touch only the outer layers of hair with dye, and treat the border area between colors with a sponge using patting movements.
- 4 Do the same with the near zones.
- 5 When you finish working with the last section, loosen all the hair and lightly massage the strands to enhance the effect of chaotic coloring.
- 6 Carefully wash off the dye. Some colorists recommend washing the product 10-15 minutes earlier than the time recommended in the instructions to achieve a milder effect.
Medium-length hair
The method for dying medium-length light brown hair is essentially the same as for balayaging long hair. However, a product that can speed up and simplify the process just surfaced. We are discussing L’Oréal Paris’ Colorista Ombré hair coloring kit.
A unique comb-brush that is included in the kit makes it easy to distribute the product along the strands.

- 1 Divide the hair into three zones. The front one covers the area from the parting, drawn from ear to ear, to the forehead. Simply divide the remaining lower part of the hair in half.
- 2 First, treat the front zone with dye, trying to grab strands only from the top layer of hair.
- 3 Then do the same manipulations with the strands of the second and third zones.
- 4 In the case of medium-length hair, you do not need to additionally knead the hair with your hands – wait until the dye sets (following the instructions), and wash it off.
Short hair
Balayage is an asterisk of a challenge when applied to short, light brown hair. It is true that short hair is easier to style, but the coloring will need to be adjusted. But doing it yourself is simpler than choosing one of the above options.

- 1 Divide your hair into 8-9 equal sections in a chaotic manner.
- 2 Start coloring with the strands that are closer to the face. Distribute the paint of the lightest tone on the ends with light sweeping movements, without touching the roots of the hair. It is better to apply the composition from the bottom up, focusing on the lowest point.
- 3 Then apply an intermediate shade to the middle of the length – for a smoother transition from the color of the ends to your natural tone.
- 4 Wash off the paint a little earlier than the exposure time allotted in the instructions.
