Choosing furniture for a massage room

More than just the appropriate knowledge and abilities are needed to create the ideal massage room. Your choice of furniture is essential to creating a calm and comfortable environment for your clients. The therapist’s and the client’s experience can be substantially improved by choosing the appropriate furniture, whether you’re creating a new space or remodeling an old one.

Every piece, from storage cabinets to massage tables, should be carefully chosen for comfort and usefulness. The appropriate furniture enhances the room’s overall ambiance and enhances the flow of your treatments.

This guide will help you furnish a massage room with furniture that looks professional and warm by going over the important features to consider.

Furniture Description
Massage Table The centerpiece of the room, providing comfort for both the client and the therapist. Choose an adjustable table with soft padding and easy-to-clean material.
Stools Essential for therapists to move around comfortably. Opt for height-adjustable stools with wheels for flexibility during sessions.
Storage Cabinet A place to store oils, towels, and other essentials. Make sure it"s spacious and easy to access without disrupting the flow of the session.
Trolley Mobile storage for frequently used items, allowing the therapist to keep everything they need within arm"s reach.
Chair A comfortable chair for clients to sit in before or after the massage. Look for a design that complements the relaxation atmosphere of the room.

Types of furniture

For the massage process, a specialized couch or table is utilized. This aids in the visitor’s total body relaxation and makes it easier for them to reach the body parts that are being massaged. There are three categories into which all couches displayed in stores fall:

  • massage tables. Workplace with a large tabletop. Static furniture that is not subject to transportation;
  • massage couch. Couches are smaller in size, have a working area slightly smaller than tables, and can withstand less load;
  • folding massage tables and couches. Have all the characteristics of classic tables and couches, but at the same time fold into a compact "suitcase".

Massage chairs fall into a different category. They are employed in the medical and therapeutic massage of the forearm and collar zone.

The owner of the massage or spa salon and the master’s preferences determine which model is used. If the work involves travel, a couch or folding table might be a good option; if the reception is done solely in the office, a traditional massage table would be a good choice.

Features of massage couches include:

  • width. The tabletop can have a width of 50 to 80 cm. The optimal indicator is considered to be 70-76 cm. With this width, the client is comfortably positioned and does not have an arm or leg hanging down, and the master does not need to reach for the opposite side of the body;
  • length. Varies from 184 to 220 cm. Universal length – 185 centimeters. There are models with adjustable length – adjust to each client;
  • height. Almost all models have an adjustable height from 55 to 85 cm. The height is chosen by each master based on their own height, convenience and the specifics of the massage, so it is better to give preference to adjustable models.
  • maximum load. Tables have load limits. This characteristic is conventionally called "load capacity". The maximum indicator that we managed to find is 370 kg.

There are three kinds based on the quantity of sections:

  • 1-section;
  • 2-section;
  • 3-section.

The number of movable and adjustable parts is reflected in the number of sections. The tabletop in a 1-section is a continuous work area that cannot be adjusted, while a 2-section one can tilt the headrest or footrest. Three sections: a head-moving area and a two-part moving work area for the tabletop.

Sections can be adjusted to correct a particular body part:

  • raised headrest imitates the "half-sitting" position;
  • raised footrest fixes the legs;
  • adjustment of the main part of the tabletop in 3-section models stretches the spinal section.

Massage table

Characteristics

Prioritize observing the indicators for length, width, and height in addition to the maximum load.

  • the optimal length is 185 cm., and even better if the length is adjustable;
  • width – 70-76 cm.
  • height – adjustable;
  • determine the load capacity based on the specifics of the massage. If the master needs to sit on the couch to work, it must withstand double the load.

Materials

  • inspect the upholstery. It should be soft and pleasant to the body, and also not emit a strong odor. A persistent chemical aroma indicates poor-quality materials that can cause allergies and irritations. Constant inhalation of toxic odors leads to shortness of breath, coughing, and watery eyes. To be sure, ask the seller for certificates of conformity – they confirm the safety of the product. The seams of the product at the junction of the upholstery must be even. A single line is less reliable and may come apart.. It is better if the joints are stitched in two lines – this is durable and looks more aesthetically pleasing, but there are very few models with a double seam;
  • find out what filler is used to make the couch. Usually I use foam rubber, but of different heights. The thickness of the filler should be at least 3 cm., otherwise the couch will be too hard, and the client will experience discomfort during the procedure.

A separate evaluation is conducted on the foam rubber’s elasticity. The following letter combinations indicate how stiff the foam rubber is:

  • ST – standard;
  • EL – increased rigidity;
  • HL – hard;
  • HS – soft.

The best application for ST is massage furniture. This is not a feather bed—rather, it’s furniture foam rubber that maintains its shape.

Tabletop

Plywood is typically the material used for the tabletop. The thickness and type of wood used in its construction both have an impact. The strength of the structure increases with thickness.

Beech or birch wood. They "win" from coniferous trees, and they are stronger and more elastic.

Weight

When the tabletop needs to be moved frequently, the product’s total weight plays a critical role. Select models with an initial weight of no more than 20 kg to facilitate transfer.

Let’s examine four well-known manufacturers who produce the best massage equipment, in the opinion of professionals and salon owners.

  • US Medica;
  • Panda;
  • Yamaguchi;
  • Anatomico.

Manufacturers provide massage tables in a range of configurations and price points. To provide you with a comprehensive understanding of each of them, let’s examine two models from each seller.

US Medica

China and the United States are the sites of production, and the world is supplied with completed models. US Medica is a well-established player in the "massage market," boasting thousands of satisfied customers.

Massage table "Athlant"

35 kg in weight. The stationary massage table is not transportable, so in this instance, the model’s lack of lightness is not the primary criterion.

One stitch at the upholstery joints is a drawback. This type of stitch is sufficient in this case because, according to the manufacturer, the synthetic leather used for the upholstery does not shrink, break, or fall apart.
