Features and selection of an ultrasonic sink for a beauty or manicure salon

Any beauty or manicure parlor has to make sure that its tools and equipment are kept in excellent condition. Any salon setup would benefit greatly from the addition of an ultrasonic sink, which makes maintaining hygiene and cleanliness simpler. This useful tool thoroughly cleans tools using high-frequency sound waves to make sure they are free of bacteria and residue.

Selecting the ideal ultrasonic sink can have a significant impact on the effectiveness and hygiene of your salon. Given the variety of models available, it’s critical to comprehend the most crucial features, like capacity, frequency, and usability. This post will discuss what to look for in an ultrasonic sink and how using one can help you run your salon more efficiently.

Choosing the best ultrasonic sink can help you improve the hygiene standards in your salon, whether you’re starting from scratch or upgrading your existing setup. Let’s explore the important aspects to think about and identify the ideal match for your requirements.

What is an ultrasonic sink

A device for disinfecting and cleaning instruments from organic residues, plaque, and other contaminants is an ultrasonic sink or bath. By using bursting bubbles and their movement along the working cavity under the influence of ultrasound, the sink modifies the surface of the devices.

Dental offices, manicure parlors, and beauty salons all use compact ultrasonic sinks. Sinks with greater capacity and dimensions are installed in larger businesses where cleaning of instruments or their parts is necessary.

During the disinfection or pre-sterilization cleaning stage, a liquid disinfectant solution (PSO) is used in conjunction with the ultrasonic bath. Compared to a traditional bath or container with a disinfectant solution, the ultrasonic washer disinfects items more quickly. Using a disinfection solution that enables PSO in addition to disinfection can help you further cut down on processing time. Following ultrasonic cleaning, the instrument only needs to be dried, rinsed under running water, and then placed in an autoclave, infrared, or dry heat sterilizer.

What’s in the ultrasonic washer?

  • a plastic case;
  • a working container made of stainless steel;
  • a lattice tray placed inside. Usually it is made of plastic, but some manufacturers prefer stainless steel. The tray is needed to place the instruments and ensure access of waves to each section of the processed devices.

Operating principle

Three operations start to run concurrently in the ultrasonic cleaner’s functioning capacity as soon as it is connected to the network. You can remove dirt and plaque from the instrument by using their combined effect:

  • cavitation – creation and collapse of bubbles;
  • acoustic flow – movement of liquid due to the action of ultrasonic waves;
  • acoustic capillary effect – the process of liquid penetration into hard-to-reach places, achieved due to cavitation.

Since the ultrasonic bath merely cleans instruments of dirt and plaque rather than killing pathogenic organisms, sterilization cannot be replaced. Only appropriate for use during the pre-sterilization and disinfection stages.

Benefits

  • allows you to exclude mechanical cleaning of instruments at the stage of pre-sterilization cleaning;
  • the process is faster than in a conventional disinfection container;
  • the ability to process instruments from different materials. Plastic, metal and glass devices are subject to ultrasonic cleaning;
  • Ultrasonic treatment does not dull the instrument, does not provoke corrosion and does not deform;
  • high cleaning efficiency.

Drawbacks:

  • not every solution is suitable for work due to different flow rates. For effective cavitation, the liquid should be as fluid as possible and best of all water-based, for example, Alaminol. The possibility of using a disinfectant in an ultrasonic cleaner is indicated in the instructions for the drug.

Features of ultrasonic cleaning

  • manual cleaning of manicure instruments is traumatic and potentially dangerous – there is a risk of cuts and infection. Ultrasonic cleaning minimizes the contact of the master with sharp and cutting manicure instruments;
  • ultrasonic cleaning is more effective in comparison with manual;
  • an ultrasonic bath processes the instrument faster than when the master does it manually in a regular bath or box.

It’s important to prioritize features that improve efficiency and cleanliness when selecting an ultrasonic sink for a manicure or beauty salon. To handle different tools and materials, look for models with adjustable settings, a large enough capacity to meet your needs, and durability to withstand regular use. Keeping a clean and efficient salon environment requires dependable performance and an easy-to-clean design.

Characteristics

  • range. The range of waves of the bath for manicure tools should fluctuate from 35 to 50 kHz;
  • capacity. To work with manicure tools, purchase a sink with an internal volume of 0.5 to 2.5 liters. A bowl of this volume will reduce the consumption of disinfectant solution;
  • quality. Make sure that the working container is made of stainless steel. Due to cavitation and frequent use of aggressive disinfectants, low-quality material corrodes faster, wears out and becomes unsuitable for use;
  • heating function. If the bath will be used for pre-sterilization cleaning, heating the water will increase the effectiveness of this procedure;
  • ultrasonic frequency. Some models provide for regulation of this frequency. If the sink you like does not have such a regulator, make sure that the frequency of the ultrasonic wave is not less than 35 kHz;
  • legs. Some models are equipped with rubberized feet that ensure the stability of the device on the surface;
  • timer. Make sure you have a timer that will automate the process and not be distracted by monitoring the device.

When purchasing, focus on the accompanying paperwork. The apparatus needs to be approved in Russia and have a Roszdravnadzor medical device registration certificate. On the State Register website, you can verify the sink’s registration. These SanPiN 2.1.2.2631-10 requirements apply to disinfection and sterilization devices.

Requirements for a disinfectant solution

Select a disinfection solution that satisfies the required criteria to boost its efficacy. Certain liquids are less effective at ultrasonic cleaning because of their environment, which prevents the cavitation process from developing:

  • choose a solution that is not too aggressive. Under the influence of ultrasound, the effectiveness of the solution increases along with its aggression, which can negatively affect the condition of the instruments;
  • it is desirable to have anti-corrosion additives in the disinfectant;
  • it is better if the disinfectant solution is made on the basis of water, and have surfactants as active components.

Recommendations for ultrasonic bath solutions:

  • Alaminol;
  • Aquistin;
  • Brilliant;
  • Desolon;
  • Blanizol.

Examine the composition, cavitation, and ultrasonic wave conductivity indicators of alternative solutions before selecting one.

Instructions for use

  1. Fill the working container of the ultrasonic bath with solution or water to the maximum mark. The less liquid is poured, the lower the cleaning efficiency;
  2. Put the tools in the basket included with the sink. It is recommended to lay out the devices in 1-2 layers. Fix the tray in the working cavity of the sink;
  3. Plug the device into the network;
  4. Set the timer and wait until the cycle is complete. A timer is usually set from 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the contamination of the processed devices. The temperature, if possible, should not be higher than 40 degrees;
  5. Drain the solution and rinse the instruments under running water.

The instruments can be sterilized in an autoclave, dry heat sterilizer, or infrared sterilizer once they have fully dried. It is crucial to remember that as soon as sediment and turbidity start to appear, the ultrasonic cleaner’s solution needs to be replaced.

A few tips

  • Do not place instruments on the metal bottom of the bath – this affects the quality of radiation and the overall efficiency of the device. All models have special trays and containers. This rule is excluded if the manufacturer allows such use. For example, in the UltraEst-M ultrasonic cleaner, instruments can be placed directly on the bottom;
  • after pouring in fresh solution, degas it. To do this, turn on the sink for 3-5 minutes without a tool, but with a solution. Degassing increases the cleaning efficiency;
  • test the bath for operability at least once every 2 months. Use regular food foil to check. Pieces measuring 10*20 cm are placed in a tray – one in the center and two on the edges. The tray is lowered into the sink, the cleaning process starts. If after the end of the cycle the foil is deformed – wrinkled or torn, then everything is fine with the ultrasonic bath.

What not to do:

  • turn on the ultrasonic bath without liquid – water or solution;
  • keep the device on all the time. Firstly, the solution evaporates, secondly, the elements of the device overheat;
  • use the bath with flammable solutions.
