Glitter – features of the material and its use

In the world of manicures and pedicures, glitter is a stunning addition that gives any nail design a playful, festive feel. Glitter can turn your nails into a shimmering masterpiece, whether you’re getting ready for a special occasion or just want to add a little sparkle to your regular outfit. It is a multipurpose material that can be used in a multitude of ways to improve your nail art, making it more than just a pretty addition.

There are several varieties of glitter that you may encounter, and each has special qualities of its own. Glitter comes in a range of sizes and forms, from tiny, delicate sparkles to large, eye-catching pieces. While some glitters can be kept in place without the need for additional products, others may require an adhesive or top coat. Selecting the appropriate type for your intended outcome can be made easier if you are aware of these variations.

The key to using glitter in nail art is to be creative. It can be used to make a bold, glittery statement, add highlights to your tips, or even create a gradient effect. Although the application process is quite simple, practice is frequently necessary to get the perfect look. Glitter can become a necessary component of your nail art routine if you use the proper methods and supplies.

Features and benefits

These tiny, shiny particles, known as "glitter" in English, are used to adorn nails and add a glossy finish to manicures. Glitter is bigger than sparkles. Particles of various sizes and shapes are typically included in glitter mixes, enabling you to produce a multidimensional, voluminous shine.

Glitter may be:

  • dry;
  • as part of gel polish;
  • as part of gel for extensions.

Since dry glitter was the first to enter the nail industry, we shall examine it in great detail in this article.

Benefits

  • dry glitter of one color can be mixed with other colors. To do this, just pour a little glitter from each jar and mix with an orange stick;
  • glitter has excellent adhesive properties. It fits tightly to the nail and lasts longer than classic single-color coating;
  • dry glitter is universal – it can be used in aquarium nail design, decorate your hair with it, or even add shine to makeup.

Drawbacks:

  • the product tends to crumble. Gel polish, for example, when the bottle is knocked over gives the master time to get their bearings and quickly pick it up. With dry product there is no such advantage. As a result, everything will shine – nails, hands, face, clothes and even the floor;
  • the coating is harder to remove. Glitter "eats" into the base and is difficult to soften. The coating soaking time increases, and with it the period of exposure of the solvent to the skin and nails increases.

Depending on the grind, there are two types of glitter:

  • Classic. Large shiny particles, with clearly visible outlines. Usually, a jar with classic glitter includes glitter of different sizes;
  • Powder. Glitter, ground to a dust state.

Depending on your goals and desired outcome, you may choose to use one type over another. In aquarium design, coarse grinding can be used to create a holographic, nearly mirror-like coating with the aid of glitter dust.

Glitter powder: step-by-step instructions

Glitter is crushed into a dust form to create glitter powder. Glitter powder is frequently used in place of rubbing because of its small size, but don’t expect a mirror-like surface from glitter. Although it won’t replicate the effect of rubbing, the product will aid in the creation of a dense reflective coating with a holographic appearance.

To make a design that is reflective, get ready:

  • glitter powder. If you have not yet purchased such a product, pay attention to the product from Patrisa Nail, and also look at our selection at the end of the article;
  • a set for three-phase coating – base, top and gel polish, close in shade to glitter powder.

Perform a manicure before beginning work: file the nail to its proper shape, use a pusher or other tool to treat the cuticle, and remove the lipid layer.

  1. Apply a thin layer of base to the nails and dry it in the lamp;
  2. Apply the color – if the background is not dense, it is better in 2 layers with drying each separately;
  3. Pour glitter powder on the sticky layer of gel polish. Try to ensure that there are no "bald spots" on the nail – this will spoil the result;
  4. Slowly rub the powder into the sticky layer with your finger or applicator. The main task at this stage is to "lay out" the smallest sparkles tightly to each other;
  5. Brush off excess and fix the coating with top coat.

For the finishing coat, we advise using a different brush because tiny glitter fragments may find their way into the bottle containing the fixer. Apply a thin layer of top coat to the foil, brush your nails clean, and stop this from happening. Use a cleanser to clean the brush after use.

Classic glitter: step-by-step instructions

  • dry glitter with large particles, like PNB from the Galaxy Glitter line;
  • a set for three-phase coating – gel polish, top and base.

Get a manicure, file your nails to create the desired shape, and scrape off any excess glitter from the nail plate’s surface.

  1. Apply the base, dry it in the lamp;
  2. Next, apply the gel polish, if necessary – in 2 layers and also dry;
  3. Pour glitter onto the sticky layer of the gel polish. You will help to fill the nail completely or cover only part of it with glitter;
  4. Use a dry brush or applicator to press the particles to the nail. Carefully brush off the excess;
  5. Use a separate brush to cover your nails with the top coat, having previously dropped it on foil or a palette. Do not neglect this advice, so as not to ruin the entire bottle of top coat, making it shiny.

Additional information about using glitter:

Useful tips

  • use the product not only on the sticky layer of gel polish, but also add it, for example, to the gel for extensions. This will create an aquarium effect in extended nails;
  • place the decorative particles carefully, pressing them as much as possible to the nail. After polymerization, all the “sticking out” particles will harden and will cling to clothes, hair;
  • if you could not avoid sticking out pieces, use a file or buff to file down the elevation, but do not forget to cover the nail with another layer of finish;
  • before using dry glitter, lay a large napkin or piece of paper on the work surface. This will make cleaning easier after the procedure;
  • to lay out the decor on the nail, you can use a pusher – scoop up the glitter with a spatula, or a cosmetic applicator for eyeshadow. If the entire nail is covered with the material, then try dipping your finger into the jar with the product.

Review of glitters from different manufacturers

We have previously discussed the classification based on consistency and grinding, and now I want to talk about colors. Every glitter available in stores is separated into:

  • colored – one pronounced color with a slight shine;
  • holographic. Reflective particles are usually silver in color, changing shade depending on the lighting;
  • multicolored – several colors of glitter in one jar.

Please take note that stores most frequently refer to classic glitter as sparkles because that is exactly what it is. When making your selection, consider size: glitter powder is smaller than regular sparkles, while classic glitter is larger than sparkles and typically produced as a mixture of particles of different sizes.

Snails

The packaging is one of the materials’ standout features from this manufacturer. Typically, glitter is sold in tiny, circular jars, and Snails decor is offered in bottles that resemble varnish. This simplifies application and keeps glitter from escaping while creating nail art.

The product comes in a variety of hues, such as pink, purple, and turquoise.

Wula Nailsoul

The producer provides a variety of glitter in varying sizes. The particles in the jar are either very small, like dust, or very large, like they can even be arranged in a pattern. More than ten hues are available, including red, various purple tones, gold, silver, white, and other colors.

Masura

The brand’s decor features a variety of colored and sized particles. Furthermore, Masura also sells glitter varnishes. Multiple glitter fractions and shades are combined into one jar. For instance, holographic particles and glitter in shades of green, blue, and red can be found in gold glitter.

Patrisa Nail

This brand advises avoiding big glitter and focusing on glitter powder instead. Patrisa Nail offers the product in roughly twenty different shades. For a subtle shimmer effect, the powder can be added to gel polish or used as a rub, according to the manufacturer.

PNB

PNB glitters can be found in the Galaxy Glitter collection. Each product contains transparent, holographic, and colored particles in addition to various sizes of glitter. There are five sets in the series.

PUF

The Korean brand creates a variety of vibrant hues with glitter in various sizes and tones. The product is particularly effective at simulating ombre, and it looks fantastic on substrates with vibrant colors.

Adding brightness and shine to a manicure is simple with glitter, and it’s also a common and reasonably priced product for nail art. Please let us know in the comments if you use glitter on your nails.
