Selecting the proper color for your eyebrows may seem like a little detail, but it can have a significant impact on how you look overall. Knowing how to choose the ideal shade is essential, regardless of whether you want to have professional eyebrow tinting done or do it yourself. Your skin tone and hair color should go well with the color of your eyebrows to bring out your natural beauty and create a harmonious, well-balanced look.
Think about the color of your hair first. If your hair is lighter than your eyebrows, then your eyebrow color should be one or two shades darker than your hair, or slightly lighter, for a more natural look. This softens the edges of your face without drawing attention to them. Select a shade that complements your hair’s overall color scheme if you have highlights or multi-toned hair.
Next, consider the tone of your skin. Warm-toned skin usually looks best with warmer eyebrow shades, while cool-toned skin often looks good with ashier hues. The undertones of your skin should also be taken into account, as they can significantly alter the appearance of the color once applied.
Finally, consider your own preferences and style. Changing the color of your eyebrows can be a great way to try out different looks, from soft and subtle to bold and dramatic. Select a shade that accentuates your unique style and gives you a sense of confidence. Your eyebrows have the power to draw attention to specific facial features and complete the look when they are colored correctly.

How to choose the color of eyebrows
Hair color has traditionally dictated color choice for eyebrow arcs. As a basis, a natural color is chosen, which even shows up in the basal zone of painted curls. The fundamental guideline for choosing the color of makeup artists and armored cars is that eyebrows shouldn’t be more than two shades different from hair roots.
Depending on the curls’ initial color in this instance, there are two ways to apply the rule:
- for blondes, redheads, brown-haired women, you need to choose colors a couple of shades darker than your hair;
- for brunettes – a couple of tones lighter.
In this instance, the arches can be painted a single tone different or the same color as the curls. The most important thing is to keep the difference to no more than two tones. Again, brunettes are an exception, as matching eyebrow dye is not advised for them due to the excessive brightness.
Remember to consider the overall image and the curls’ temperature when selecting a color. The predominant shades of yellow or purple-blue in the color are determined by temperature.
- if yellow predominates in the hair, skin color and eyes, the girl belongs to the representatives of the warm color type, therefore the chosen shade for the eyebrow arches should also be warm;
- if the hair, skin and eyes have a cold feel – blue or purple undertone, the girl should also choose cold shades of paint or cosmetics for eyebrow arches.
Next, we’ll determine the appropriate eyebrow shape for:
- Blondes;
- Brunettes;
- Fair-haired;
- Redheads.
We’ll also treat gray hair and the best shades for it as a different category.
Blondes
Given that the primary factor in determining eyebrow tone in this article is hair color, we will categorize all blondes into two groups:
This is significant because there will be variations in the guidelines for selecting the color of paint, pencil, or shadow for them.
Girls with curls that are wheat, golden, sand, caramel, or champagne in color are considered warm blondes. icy blonde tones: pearl, platinum, and ash.
It’s odd that girls with warm blonde hair tend to be far more common than those with cold hair. Not the outcome of coloring, but the temperature of natural hair is what we are discussing. It’s hard to meet a girl who has platinum curls or ash naturally.
Warm blondes
Blondes who have a lot of yellow in their complexion should have eyebrows that are equally warm in tones of beige, sand, and light brown. Excessive darkening of the arches is not advised; many girls with fair hair are guilty of this. In addition to making you appear older, dark eyebrows against blond hair instantly draw attention to the fact that they have been tinted.
Out of all the paints available on the market, Levissime in shade 7-7 is the one we suggest looking into more closely. This is a light brown with a hint of warmth that goes really well with warm blonde hair.
There is an entire line of henna for blondes at Brow Henna. No. 204 – Golden Blond is a good choice for girls with golden, wheat, and sandy hair. No. 203, light chestnut, is for those who wish to slightly darken the arches within two tones. While there are differences in the degrees of brown expression, both products are "warm."
A brief note on makeup: pencils and shadows. The same rule applies when selecting them: keep them at the appropriate temperature and no more than a few shades darker. The light brown tint of Vivienne Sabo’s Brow Arcade line is excellent.
The 12 shades of ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS pencils include at least two light and neutral brown shades that are ideal for fair-skinned people.
Cold blondes
Taupov advises cold blondes to arrange their eyebrows in a neutral or cold brown hue. A small amount of graphite is acceptable because it will draw attention to the expressive image and look succinct with a cold appearance.
Paints typically yield neutral tones, so it’s unlikely that you’ll find a cold blonde’s finished look. The only exception will be a traditional brown, such as the "Brown" color offered by the Thua brand, but it won’t be suitable for everyone. However, the Taupe Grey is more widely available from the same manufacturer and is ideal for cold-blooded blondes due to his grayish undertone.
You can mix brown and graphite paint in a 2 to 1 ratio, with 1 part being graphite, to achieve the ideal shade. You obtain a somewhat chilly gray-brown tint as a result.
Check out the aforementioned brand Brow Henna if you intend to use henna to dye your eyebrows. Light-blond 202 is a good shade for blondes who live in cold climates.
The Manly Pro gel pencil "Mink" is a cool brown-gray color that works well on cold blondes. The same brand offers a cool taupe powder pencil called "Coriander."
Brunettes
Although brunettes’ hair varies in temperature as well, their color preference is more widespread. As was previously stated, you shouldn’t style your eyebrows to match your hair. If your eyebrows are one or two shades lighter than your hair, you will look younger, more rested, and more put together.
A gray and brown color scheme can be used to design eyebrows on people with black hair. The paints Graphite from Thuya or Graphite from Kapous will work if you decide on gray tones.
Examine No. 3 from Refektocil more closely among the brown ones.
At Brow Henna, brown henna "Bitter Chocolate" is number 104.
The shade "Cumin," a chilly dark brown, conceals Manly Pro’s powder pencil for brunettes.
Light brown
After blond, light brown hair is the next richest shade. It can be either dark brown or light brown, depending on how much brown pigment is present.
The basic rule, which has been mentioned numerous times above, should be followed when choosing eyebrow color for light brown hair. Depending on the amount of brown pigment in the hair, the color should not be more than two tones darker than the hair color.
- Light brown girls need to focus on the palette of blondes. If there is a gray tint in the hair, and the skin has a cool undertone, light and medium brown shades with the addition of gray will do. For warm light brown hair, sandy eyebrows or taupe will be a great addition;
- for those whose hair is a richer brown tone, the arches should be a classic brown color.
For rich brown hair, Bronsun’s traditional brown dye under number 6 is perfect. "Cappuccino," a lighter shade from InLei.
In terms of henna, the neutral brown number #101 in the "Brown" palette at Brow Henna, along with the brown numbers 102 and 103, which have a cool undertone for girls with cool light brown hair, are the ones to go for.
Pencils are chosen using the same criteria: depending on the appearance’s temperature, they may be traditional brown or have a grayish tint. If you are having trouble judging the temperature, just go with a medium or light neutral brown.
Redheads
Given how hard it is to choose the perfect eyebrow color, red hair color is typically thought to be the most problematic.
Some advice for girls with red hair:
- don’t darken your eyebrows – firstly, it will be a strange combination, and secondly, it will add imbalance to the image;
- don"t look for a pencil or paint in the same color – you probably won"t find it. Take a closer look at products with a copper, gold or sand shade;
Let’s start practicing now. Henna, cosmetics, and hair dyes are the best options for red hair:
- sand and beige shade – for those who do not want to highlight the eyebrows too much, but want to add expressiveness to them;
- neutral brown – suitable for copper and amber redhead.
Refusing to use pigments that are overly dark brown and/or a gray mixture is necessary. Girls with a cold color type will be an exception; taupe gray-brown will work for them.
Take note of the light brown from Levissime or No. 5 from Bronsun among the previously mentioned hues.
Gray
The rule of two tones is inapplicable if the hair is totally gray. Women with gray hair go well with an arc that has a lot of gray tones. Graphite or tup, depending on the overall appearance’s color type:
- For cold winter and summer, graphite is suitable. To soften grayness, graphite can be combined with brown. When using the paint, dilute brown and graphite needs 1 to 2, respectively;
- for spring and autumn, taupe will be better, but with a predominance of more gray than brown.
Common mistakes
- too dark eyebrows. Dark eyebrows are equally inappropriate for girls with any hair, eye, and skin color. They add heaviness and corpulence to the image;
- selecting eyebrow color to match the color of dyed hair. If your curls have, say, a pink tint, this does not mean that your eyebrows should be the same. Always focus on the natural color – it is visible in the root zone in any case;
- temperature imbalance in the image. As much as you would like, cold colors will not suit a warm color type, and vice versa.
