How to choose the right eyebrow length

Useful articles

The length of your eyebrows can have a significant impact on how you appear overall. When properly shaped, eyebrows can really enhance your features and frame your face. However, it can be challenging to determine the ideal length for your brows. It takes more than just following trends to find what suits your particular face shape and style.

Start by thinking about the natural shape of your eyebrows and how they enhance the features of your face. Longer, more angular brows can help create balance on a round face. However, a softer, shorter eyebrow shape might suit you better if your face is more angular. Finding a length that accentuates your inherent beauty is crucial.

Your own style is another thing to consider. While some choose a more subtle look, others like bold, dramatic eyebrows. The length of your eyebrows should convey both your style and personality. Keep in mind that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to eyebrows, so feel free to experiment until you find what works best for you.

Finally, remember that maintaining the proper length of your eyebrows is just as important as picking the appropriate one. Keeping your brows in top shape can be achieved with regular grooming and shaping. Your eyebrows will always look amazing on your face if you take consistent care of them, whether you choose to have a professional do it or not.

Face Shape Suggested Eyebrow Length
Round Opt for slightly longer eyebrows to add definition and balance to the face.
Oval Choose a medium length to maintain natural harmony and avoid making the face look too long.
Square Go for a longer eyebrow length to soften strong facial features and create a balanced look.
Heart Select a shorter eyebrow length to keep the focus on the eyes and forehead without overwhelming the face.

Optimal eyebrow length

The length of an eyebrow is measured from its starting point to its tip. Since much in this situation depends on the face as a whole, its features, their size, and their expressiveness, ideal length is a subjective concept.

Traditionally, eyebrows are classified as follows:

  • long;
  • medium;
  • short.

In addition, different women fit differently in certain sizes. You are able to ascertain an individual’s average eyebrow arch length. This is accomplished by using a well-known method that involves marking three points: the beginning, the rise, and the tip. However, if you’re just interested in figuring out the length of the eyebrows, you can skip the middle point and just measure the base and the end:

  1. Place a pencil to the wing of the nose in an upward direction through the inner corner of the eye – this will be the beginning;
  2. Also from the wing of the nose, place a pencil through the outer corner of the eye – there the eyebrow arch will end.

The average length, or the resultant distance, will be used to determine the length or shortness of the arches. Let us reiterate, however, that arches of equal length on various faces can have disparate interpretations.

On a face with other features, Emilia Clarke’s eyebrows, for instance, would appear extremely long; on the other hand, her eye color, nose size, and head width are all average.

Here’s a more blatant illustration: if you ignore the other aspects of their appearance, you can see that the two girls in the picture below have eyebrow arches that are roughly the same length.

The length is short for the girl on the left and medium/neutral for the girl on the right, who is Ariana Grande, incidentally.

As we were able to determine, the ideal duration differs from situation to situation, or more accurately, from person to person. We’ll discover later what determines the ideal length of the eyebrow arches, but for now, let us explain how the length of the eyebrows influences how the face is perceived.

  • Eyebrows that are significantly shorter than the average size of the eyebrow arch give the face naivety, simplicity and openness. They are contraindicated for girls with small eyes and small features – this way the flaws will only become more expressive;
  • long ones – add passion, playfulness, but only if the tip is not too low. Refreshing and look appropriate on adult women. In other cases, you need to focus on the appearance as a whole.

Eyebrow length by face type

The criterion used to determine the length of the eyebrow arch is face type. The features of your face, such as the placement of your eyes, the size of your lips and nose, the width of your forehead, and the expressiveness of your cheekbones, must be considered in addition to the contour of your face.

Oval

Oval-faced girls are free to try new things. Girls with soft oval faces and large eyes and expressive cheekbones will look good with long eyebrows. You can extend it from the side of your nose bridge without having to adjust the size with a tail. The two arches should be separated by at least two fingers’ worth of space, or 1.5 to 2 cm; otherwise, the appearance will be dreary and heavy.

If the girl has an adorable, childlike face, it is preferable to decline short eyebrow arches with an oval face because they will only draw attention to it.

Circle

It’s not advised for girls with round faces to go overboard. Long eyebrows give the appearance of a wider, rounder face. Brief: will increase weariness, fullness, and exhaustion. Three-point measurements of medium length are the best option.

Square

A face that is square or rectangular has a broad forehead and jaw. On a face like this, long eyebrows will accentuate this width, so it is preferable to decline lengthening. Moreover, too-short ones are undesirable because they will appear strange on a large face. Girls with square faces and petite features—small eyes, thin lips—are an exception. Little arches might be appropriate on their face.

The only remaining 100% option is medium-length eyebrows.

Triangle

Perhaps the only face shape where short eyebrow arches are advised to be taken into consideration is the triangular face. They will lessen the forehead’s noticeable width and help to balance the face. Long ones, however, only draw attention to their width. Choose medium ones if you don’t want to experiment.

Consider the shape and width of your lips when selecting eyebrows based on the shape of your face. Short eyebrows go better with small, full lips, while elongated eyebrows go better with long, thin lips.

Selecting the appropriate length for your eyebrows can significantly impact how your face is framed and how good you look overall. The secret is to align the length of your brows with the natural arch of your brows and the shape of your face. Your eyebrows should ideally fall slightly past the outer corners of your eyes to create a harmonious line that accentuates your best features and gives you a balanced appearance. You can find the ideal brow length that accentuates your best features and fits your personal style by taking into account the shape of your face and experimenting with different lengths.

How to make eyebrows longer

Determine the reason behind the shortening of your eyebrows before trying to make them longer, either medium or long.

Generally speaking, there are three categories of reasons to be identified:

  • heredity – such eyebrows are naturally short from birth;
  • internal problems in the body that caused hair loss and, as a result, shortening of the eyebrow arch as a whole;
  • errors in care – for example, frequent plucking.

You should consult a physician in the first and second situations. If your issue with length has plagued you since childhood, see a specialist such as a trichologist, gastroenterologist, or endocrinologist. You can utilize the lengthening techniques listed below in addition to the doctor’s advice, but first and foremost, treat the underlying cause.

You can fight for length if the cause is cosmetic issues, such as frequent corrections, a fashion-driven pursuit of appearance, neglect, or the use of inferior cosmetics.

There are two methods:

  1. Visual correction;
  2. Growing out missing hairs.

Visual correction

You can use makeup, such as eyebrow pencil, shadows, and tint, to visually adjust the length. To carry out this:

  1. Determine the desired length by moving the extreme point of the eyebrow from the temple or from the bridge of the nose;
  2. Use a pencil to fill the void – the place where there are no hairs, with stroke movements. If you are lengthening the eyebrow at the bridge of the nose – make soft, barely noticeable lines so that they do not catch the eye;
  3. Complete the makeup by styling the hairs with gel.

An alternative approach would be to use paint or henna coloring, but bear in mind that the effects of this method are temporary and will not allow you to achieve noticeable eyebrow lengthening over time.

Growing out hairs

Although growing eyebrows is a challenging task, it is quite achievable. The most important thing in this situation is to exercise patience as the outcome might not happen for several weeks or even months.

Massage

Using your hands, spoons, or brush to massage the arches of your eyebrows will increase blood flow, which will allow the blood vessels to better nourish the hair root and cause the hairs to progressively regrow.

  • massage with your hands consists of pressing, pinching and tapping the eyebrow arches. You can repeat the massage daily or alternate it with other methods of influence;
  • massage with a brush is the simplest option. Pre-moistened eyebrows with oil are combed in the direction of hair growth with a round brush or a medium-thickness toothbrush. The exposure time on each side is at least 5 minutes;
  • massage spoons should be of different temperatures – one cold, the other hot. First use a hot spoon – press the convex part on the middle of the eyebrow arch, then loosen the pressure. Repeat 7-10 times. The same should be done with a cold spoon.

We’ve already covered massage in great detail in another article; pay attention to the most widely used methods.

Scrubbing

A scrub can handle two things at once. Similar to a massage, it increases blood flow to the brow region and gets rid of dead skin cells, which helps the growth of new hair. Scrubbing should only be done once a week to prevent irritating the skin, increasing its permeability, and harming its integrity.

You can use a specific scrub, such as Zola’s CC Brow. If you don’t have any special product, you can use any face scrub.

Application of special products and oils

Hair follicles can be made to function again with the use of specific oils or serums that stimulate dormant follicles.

Some oils that work well are:

  • amla;
  • almond;
  • castor;
  • bay;
  • usma.

Oils are necessary and should be applied on a daily basis to the arches themselves as well as to areas devoid of hair.

Among the brow-growth serums, we suggest paying more attention to:

  • Brow Henna serum;
  • growth activator Alerana;
  • Toplash growth serum.

Use serums as directed by the manufacturer, usually once or twice daily. Generally, the duration of use is three weeks or longer, depending on the intended outcome.

All of the aforementioned manipulations will start to show results in a few weeks, and it will take at least 40–60 days to evaluate them. This is the amount of time needed for the eyebrows’ hair shafts to go through one full growth cycle.

Achieving the ideal eyebrow length is essential to improving your appearance as a whole. Your perfect brow length should accentuate your individual style while balancing with the shape and features of your face. Always keep in mind that there is no one-size-fits-all method, so spend some time experimenting to determine what suits you the best.

Think about your face shape first. Longer eyebrows can help you look longer if you have a round face. Softer, marginally shorter eyebrows can give a gentler appearance on square faces. For a harmonious and attractive result, match the length of your brows to the shape of your face.

Consider your own style as well. Whether you like a more defined look or a more natural look, your eyebrows should convey who you are. Experiment with different lengths to see what suits your daily vibe and sense of style.

In the end, don’t be hesitant to consult an expert. An expert brow technician can provide you with individualized advice and support to help you get the greatest outcomes. By being patient and trying different lengths, you can determine the ideal eyebrow length that accentuates your best features and gives you more self-assurance.
