There are countless ways to show off your style with a double-sided manicure, whether you like striking patterns, sophisticated accents, or a combination of colors.

What is double-sided manicure

A double-sided manicure, also known as a Louboutin manicure, is a style of nail art in which the free edge of the nail is embellished from both the inside and the outside. The well-known Christian Louboutin shoes with their colorful soles are credited with giving the design its name.

Benefits

  1. Originality. Such a design looks creative and fashionable, despite the fact that special tools and artistic skills are not required for work;
  2. The ability to use “flashy” colors, leaving the manicure calm. Louboutin manicure is an excellent solution for office nail design. In this case, the surface of the nail is painted, for example, in beige or pastel pink, and the inner part – in bright red or yellow;
  3. Speed. To create an unusual design, you need a little more time than for a regular single-color coating.

Drawbacks:

  1. Not suitable for short nails. To create a manicure, at least minimal growth of the nail plate is required;
  2. It is inconvenient to apply varnish to the inside. The shorter the nail, the more difficult it will be to paint it well.

Features

Suggestions for designing a manicure inspired by Louboutin:

  1. To avoid having to painfully scrub the varnish off your finger, use liquid tape for manicure. It is easy to remove and can be “put” close to the nail;
  2. Coat the inside of the nail first. This will allow you to correct the flaws without damaging the front side of the manicure;
  3. Apply a base coat under the varnish or gel polish, decorating the inner surface. Without a base coat, you will have to redo the double-sided manicure at the end of the day. It will not be superfluous to fix the result with a top;
  4. Try to apply the products very thinly so that the result is not too voluminous.

Classic

Red and black, the primary colors of the Louboutin brand, are regarded as the classic Louboutin manicure. The outer, front surface is coated with black varnish, while the inner, which replicates the sole, is painted red.

A double-sided design works well on nails that are almond, square, or oval in shape.

Even though this option features traditional colors, the nail artist has added some innovations to it. The nails were adorned with flowers and a rhinestone composition; glitter was used to balance the red hue, and one nail was intentionally left black on the inside to create contrast.

For short nails

Short nails in this instance indicate a nail plate with little regrowth. If it is entirely absent, you will have to give up on the Louboutin manicure.

The bottom is red, and the top is covered in densely shiny shimmer varnish.

An analogous choice, except with a gold base coat.

Following the Louboutin manicure’s adaptation, the masters started to create new iterations, combining colors and design elements. You can see that orange has taken the place of the traditional red in these examples.

Although the nail plate is slightly longer in this instance, it is still deemed insufficient. A great example of how to pair bright, bold pastel colors like yellow, orange, and blue with delicate, feminine pastel shades.

Everywhere this Louboutin manicure was gentle. The top surface is coated with a serene, nude varnish, while the lower surface is painted a vibrant, yet non-offensive, pink. Pale to the Chief and Two-Timing the Zones are two OPI gel polish shades that you can use to replicate the design.

For long nails

Long nails make things easier in a Louboutin manicure; a well-grown or extended free edge is easy to paint over, and more room is available for extra design.

There are two possible color schemes: a traditional red-black and a contemporary mustard-red. It was decided to make both designs matte on both sides.

The masters of Louboutin manicures initially insisted on using a combination of contrasting shades, but they changed their strategy and started painting the inner surface the same tone as the outer one. You can choose to shine the inside side.

Long nails are the focus of this feminine Louboutin manicure, which combines rich pink and nude nail polish.

White nails without any pattern can look too plain, but when paired with a red "sole," extra decoration is unnecessary.

A French manicure is a must for a double-sided manicure. While the picture displays a colorful French manicure, you can just as easily go for a classic look, which will complement any vivid color on the inside of the nail plate.

Here, the nail artist chose to experiment with the nail’s exterior color while maintaining the traditional red on the free edge.

A leaf-shaped design with a colored inner surface is a concept for an autumnal double-sided manicure.

For those who are sick of pastels and nude, try this bold nail art.

Keep an eye on the coherence of the free edge’s outer and inner edges. The primary blue and secondary red appear to merge together without a distinct boundary.

With decorations

Rhinestones, illustrations, and thick moldings work well with the double-sided design, and they can be used on both the front and the back.

Volumetric stones on one finger give the design a somber feel. The manicure is appropriate for a holiday or wedding.

This image demonstrates a true wealth of design possibilities: the design is enhanced by stucco and a French frame, and some of the nails are adorned with thick, glossy varnish on the inside.

Some are even able to sketch on the "sole." This image features a leopard print that is accentuated by a striking color scheme.

It is simpler to fill the interior with dry glitter than to coat it with varnish because the glitter sticks only to the base and can be brushed off with a brush once it has dried.

An additional matte manicure variation. This time, the glossy back side was left in place to accentuate the subdued red backdrop.

Animal designs, but from the front. The back was still that classic red color.

Vibrant, multicolored manicure on both sides—the key feature here is the way the various varnishes are combined.

The leopard pattern and blue varnish work together very well.

In addition to being covered in glitter, the back side is embellished with adorable hearts. Everything appears feminine from the outside, including the rhinestones and red gel polish.

A serene manicure that doesn’t sacrifice style or brightness. Replicating this design is simple; just get ready some red varnish, dry glitter, and matte finish. Design the inner side first, covering the base layer with a thick layer of glitter, and then design the outer. Select a high-quality varnish (like Essie "Lacquered up") and finely ground glitter for the main coating.

Undoubtedly, a louboutin manicure is a unique choice for nail art. It’s possible that not everyone will value its uniqueness and creativity. How do you feel about this manicure? Post your thoughts in the comments section!
