What is marble manicure

A marble manicure is a style of nail art wherein stains similar to those found in marble or other natural stones are made on gel polish or varnish.

Although the design first appeared in 2013, it gained popularity in 2018 when nail art began to incorporate natural motifs.

A design can be made by utilizing:

  • gel polish and a brush;
  • polyethylene;
  • stamp for stamping;
  • alcohol;
  • acrylic paints;
  • with water.

Certain manufacturers, particularly in internet retailers in China. Additionally, provide a marble-effect varnish; however, the outcome is not particularly striking as the stone stains are not easily noticeable.

Marble-chip varnishes, like Blise, can also be used to simulate real stone. Here, tiny inclusions of variously sized and colored particles are what give the stone effect.

Additionally, stickers with a marble pattern can be found in stores as sliders. Of course, Aliexpress and other websites of a similar nature have the largest selection.

Palette for marble manicure

Naturally, there are no limitations in this instance, but the following combinations provide the closest possible distance to natural stone:

  • white and pink;
  • white and black or gray;
  • light blue and blue. In this case, you will get an imitation of turquoise;
  • different shades of green will give the feeling of malachite;
  • beige and its derivatives will help to create an extravagant, but discreet manicure, suitable for everyday wear;
  • black with metallic shades – gold and silver.

Advice on how to do a marble manicure:

  • choose a medium-density varnish. Too liquid varnish will not spread, and dense varnish does not mix well and does not give smooth streaks. All products for marble manicure must be of high quality, otherwise the coating will quickly peel off. Consider professional brands – OPI, Essie, Sophin, Rio Profi;
  • be patient. Like any technique, marble does not tolerate haste. If you do not want to sit over the drawing of each nail, choose several nail plates that will be accent ones and work them properly;
  • marble manicure requires some skills, so be prepared that the design will not turn out perfect the first time. At first, practice on the tips to fill your hand.

Gel polish and brush

Using a brush to create a stone effect is probably the most straightforward method. It will take some basic artistic abilities for the design to succeed.

Get ready for the job:

  • Gel polish of two shades. It is better if the funds are one company. To create a classic marble design, take white and black;
  • base and top;
  • A thin brush. Such brushes are presented in almost all brands for manicure products – Runail, TNL, Irisk. The photo below shows the brush of the brand Runail Nail Art Nylon No. 000/3, 12 mm.

Prepare the background

  1. Wash the nail plate with a degreaser and after evaporation apply the base;
  2. Dry the base layer in a lamp 30-120 sec. depending on the type and power of the device;
  3. Cut the nail with white gel polish followed by drying. If necessary, reapply the background color so that the coating is dense;

Creating a pattern

  1. Apply a thin layer of top coat over the dried gel polish;
  2. Start drawing barely noticeable thin lines with a thin brush dipped in black gel polish. The lines will blur on the wet top coat – this is normal, it should be so;
  3. Draw stripes chaotically, differently on each nail, until their number is sufficient for your idea. The lines should not be clear, so some tips can be intentionally shaded.

If the outcome does not meet your expectations, use a disc dipped in cleanser to remove the pattern and a 180–240 grit file to gently buff the surface. Clean with degreaser, reapply top coat, and repeat.

Final stage

  1. Dry the pattern in a lamp. In LED it will take 60 seconds., In UV – 120;
  2. Cover your nails with a top coat and dry again.

You can add glitter, rhinestones, or other decorative elements to the design before you apply the top coat. In this instance, having a sticky layer on the top applied to create the pattern is preferable.

Alcohol solution

Equipment and supplies:

  • black and white gel polishes;
  • base and top;
  • alcohol solution. It is better to take pure alcohol, not tincture;
  • brush. The brush should be densely packed and with not too long bristles, for example, "Kolonok" No. 01 from Irisk.

Preparatory stage

  1. Do a manicure, degrease the nail, apply a thin layer of base and dry;
  2. Cover the nails with white gel polish and also dry. If necessary, repeat the color application.

Creating a pattern

  1. Moisten a sponge or lint-free napkin with an alcohol solution and thoroughly wipe the nail;
  2. Using black gel polish, draw a thick line diagonally on the alcohol surface – from the right corner at the cuticle to the left corner of the free edge. When drawing a line, do not press too hard on the brush – do it with a light press, since the polish will immediately "float" on the alcohol surface;
  3. Take a brush and lightly press it to the liquid black gel polish, blot the stain;
  4. Remove unnecessary details of the design from the surface with a brush dipped in alcohol;
  5. In the other corner of the nail, make one small streak of black varnish and repeat the blotting with a brush;
  6. Dry the design in a lamp and cover with a top coat.

Be cautious—the alcohol-based method severely dries out the skin. After the procedure, make sure to apply oil to moisturize the cuticle and surrounding tissue.

Varnish and acrylic paints

  • nail polish of any color;
  • black acrylic paint, for example, from the Runail set;
  • a thin brush, for example, the same Runail Nail Art Nylon №000/3;
  • a small container with water.

Fixer and base are optional extras that prolong the design’s longevity, but they are not necessary when using the varnish.

  1. Prepare your nails – do a manicure, cover with color and wait until it dries completely;
  2. Squeeze a couple of drops of black acrylic paint onto a small piece of foil or plastic;
  3. Wet the brush in water and pick up a little dye, removing the excess on the foil;
  4. With light movements, begin drawing a marble pattern on your nails. A mixture of paint and water allows you to make fuzzy lines with minor streaks;
  5. If desired, add some glitter to the pattern and wait until the marble dries completely in the open air.

Using thick polyethylene

  • base and top coat;
  • gray or black gel polish;
  • a small piece of polyethylene – 10 by 10 will be enough. The polyethylene should be dense so that when compressed it forms edges, and does not crumple into a lump.
  1. Prepare the background for the future marble manicure by applying a base and a white background. Each layer is dried separately in a lamp;
  2. Apply dark gel polish to the crumpled polyethylene;
  3. Print the pattern from polyethylene onto the nail, dry in the lamp and fix with top.

Stamp for stamping

This technique can be applied to nails to simulate amethyst or malachite. On the other hand, you don’t require any particular knowledge or abilities to perform such a manicure. This technique is applicable in beauty salons as well as at home.

  • base and top coat;
  • gel polishes of three different shades, close to the colors of the selected stone. For malachite, for example, two dark shades of green and gray are used;
  • stamp for stamping with a silicone pad;
  • liquid tape.

Do a manicure and apply base and color to your nails before starting to create a pattern.

  1. Cover the skin around the nails with liquid tape;
  2. Drop a few drops of different gel polishes onto the stamp. Don"t be afraid to mix them – this is what will allow you to create a pattern close to the natural color of the stone;
  3. Print the polish on the nail, but not as in the stamping technique, but with short pressing movements, as if you are blotting the nail plate. The polishes will mix with each other and create a realistic stone print;
  4. Remove the sticky tape and dry your nails in the lamp and fix with a top.

Use an orange stick to remove any streaks under the nail before polymerization.

Water-manicure

Using water to create designs on nails is known as a "water manicure." Once the proper pattern has been formed in the water-filled container, you can obtain a realistic marble design.

  1. Carry out standard training – manicure, base, color;
  2. In a small container of water, for example, a plastic cup, start dripping gel polish of gray or black. In fact, you can choose any color, but it is gray and black that create the most realistic pattern;
  3. After each drop, wait until it spreads on the water surface properly;
  4. Continue to drip until the water acquires a grayish tint;
  5. Spray or hair spray in the water – this is necessary so that the drawing forms not a circle, but chaotic intersperses;
  6. Lower the finger into the center of the gray pattern;
  7. Gently remove surplus from the skin, dry the pattern in the lamp and the cut with a top.

You now understand that a marble manicure can be achieved at home and without the need for specialized tools. Which option did you think was the simplest? Post your thoughts in the comments section.
