What width is there and what does it depend on

The separation between the upper and lower horizontal borders of an eyebrow is its width. Although thickness is another term for it, which is also acceptable, width is still the traditional and widely used term.

In 2016, the wide-brow trend started to pick up steam. This was a major shock to most girls, as thin, thread-like eyebrows were once in style. The model Cara Delevingne, whose thick and wide eyebrow arches date back to her early childhood, started this trend. As the girl grew older, girls from all over the world started to notice her, followed by several fashion houses. Fashionistas worldwide coveted Kara’s thick, wide eyebrows because of how expressive and distinctive her face was.

It proved to be challenging to restore natural thickness and width after years of plucking. There are two causes:

internal malfunctions in the body. Some diseases associated with the gastrointestinal tract, nervous system, thyroid gland can affect the quality and quantity of hair, including on the eyebrows. If symptoms are detected, consult a therapist or specialist doctor.

How to choose the width of eyebrows

Since the harmony on a given face determines how wide something is generally perceived rather than its actual size, width is a subjective concept.

The following factors affect the width choice:

size, proportions of other parts – eyes, forehead, nose;
age of the girl.

Eyebrow width by face shape

oval. An oval face is the golden mean, so it looks harmonious with any shape and width. A suitable option would be medium-width arches with a smooth transition to a narrow tip, but wide shapes on such a face will also laconically emphasize individuality;

square or rectangle. For a square face, "strings" are taboo, they will emphasize the angularity and make all the flaws of appearance expressive. The best option is medium thickness, smoothly going into a tail. If the cheekbones are expressive and the lips are plump – experiment with a larger width.

circle. A round face is no exception and looks better with a medium width. Thin arched shapes are not recommended – visually the face will become even rounder and larger;

triangle. A triangular face with expressive cheekbones will look harmonious with wide arches.

By proportions

In order to prevent the eyebrows from being the face’s primary focal point, they are connected to other facial features.

wide – will suit girls with plump lips, expressive cheekbones, large eyes;

if the lips are thin – the best option would be graceful and thin shapes proportionate to the lips. It is not necessary that they be a thread – they can also be styled, tinted, but it is not recommended to give them extra width;

By age

Despite how strange it may sound, the girl’s age is also correlated with the width of her eyebrows.

The most common mistake in correcting this shape is one width from the beginning to the rise and then a sharp departure into a thin tail;
arched. Arched shapes without angles and gradual narrowing look like caterpillars.

Straight, horizontal eyebrows that are nearly the same width all the way across would be the best option. Curved arches with a soft arch are an additional choice. The previously mentioned Cara Delevingne simply follows this advice:

lower border with a smooth arch without a pronounced break at the rise;
the upper border is also smooth, but with a break at the point of lifting.

Important note: wide eyebrows don’t always need to be trimmed to "zero" at the ends. Similar to medium and thin eyebrows, they can be made thinner, but it’s not always appropriate to do so. It all depends on how long it is.

Care rules or how to make eyebrows wider

leave tweezers alone. If you plan to work hard on increasing the width, temporarily refuse correction;
do a massage. The best way to stimulate hair growth and wake up dormant follicles is a simple massage with your hands, spoons, or a brush – we have a whole article about this, be sure to read it;
use growth products – oils, special serums, scrubs. All this will help wake up dormant follicles and start hair growth;
use only high-quality cosmetics. Eyeshadows, pencils, styling gels – all this should have a gentle composition that does not harm hair and skin.
